Professor Liane Gabora (University of British Columbia) is an interdisciplinary cognitive scientist whose research spans psychology, creativity, cultural evolution, and AI. She has published more than 200 scholarly works, and her book Dawn of the Creative Mind: The Origin and Evolution of Culture and Innovation is forthcoming from Cambridge University Press.

How do we develop and maintain coherent, self-organizing world-models that constrain and enable future learning and action?

The capacity to think 'what is' but also 'what's possible’ constitutes a central aspect of cognition and can be modelled by autocatalytic networks. Join Professor Gabora as she presents a theory of creativity and honing theory, computational and empirical evidence from studies of musicians, artists, creative writers, dancers, and comedians, and outlines an early application of the autocatalytic network framework to artificial intelligence.

This seminar is free and open to everyone.
