UiB Læringskonferanse (“UiB Learning Conference”) is a celebration of inclusive and research-based practices in university teaching and learning. The event is also intended to be an opportunity to connect and to learn together about building connection, community, and inclusion. The UiB Læringskonferanse will include keynote speakers and workshops, paper panels, and poster presentations.

We invite you to attend the event this year to see presentations of games, papers, and research by our colleagues from SLATE and others!

UiB Læringskonferanse is free and open to all members of the University of Bergen community, including all teachers, staff, and students— but remember to register to join us there! The registration deadline is October 10th.  

SLATE is involved in three presentations during the UiB Læringskonferanse:

Psychological Safety in Higher Education – a Literature Review and Examples from Research at UiB

Parallel Session I, 10:45 – 12:15, Søndre Allmenning 1

Gry Ane Vikanes Lavik, Academic Librarian at the University of Bergen Library, and SLATE Senior Researcher and Theme Leader Ingunn Johanne Ness will present research about psychological safety in teaching.

Learning about data through social connection: Game-based strategies in a continuing education workshop

Parallel Session I, 10:45 – 12:15, Søndre Allmenning 2

SLATE Postdoc Dr. Fride Haram Klykken, former SLATE Researcher Dr. Rosaline Barendregt, and Dr. Ingunn Johanne Ness will also present preliminary findings from a second paper regarding the case study of the use of data literacy games in continuing education. The title of the presentation is Learning about data through social connection: Game-based strategies in a continuing education workshop. The games used in the study were initially created as part of the DALI project, and further developed as part of the ongoing Edutrust AI project, to support data literacy for inclusion and empowerment. This research has been supported by the Trond Mohn Research Foundation (TMF) through the EduTrust AI project (TMS2023TMT03).

Beyond the Digital: Analogue Games’ Creative Potential in Deepening Data Literacy

Parallel Session II, 13:00 – 14:30, Nordre Allmenning 3      

Ingunn Johanne Ness, Fride Haram Klykken, Rosaline Barendregt, and Director at SLATE, Professor Barbara Wasson, will present a paper and research on the use of the analogue data literacy learning games in the SLATE continuing education course DIGI610: Fantastic Data. The paper is entitled Beyond the Digital: Analogue Games’ Creative Potential in Deepening Data Literacy (2024). Senior Executive Officer at SLATE, Sofie Steinsund, is also a co-author. This research has been supported by the Trond Mohn Research Foundation (TMF) through the EduTrust AI project (TMS2023TMT03).
