Teachers’ Day: SLATE Shares Data Literacy Game Package Experiences

January 31, 2025

January 31st

13:00 - 13:40

Dragefjellet, Aud 2, University of Bergen

Can analogue games promote digital learning and participation? At Teachers’ Day, SLATE Postdoc Fride Haram Klykken will share how teachers and pupils have experienced using the game package ‘Delta i data!’ for data literacy.

Lærernes dag (Teachers' Day, formerly “the academic-pedagogical day”) is the University of Bergen’s (UiB) annual event for teachers in Vestland county, Western Norway. Teachers are invited to spend a full day at UiB, where there will be many opportunities for professional updates in the form of over sixty lectures on current research within various fields.

During this year’s edition of Teachers’ Day, SLATE Postdoctoral Research Fellow Fride Haram Klykken will have a presentation on the topic “Erfaringer med 'Delta i data!’: Kan analoge spill fremme digital læring og deltakelse?” (“Experiences with 'Delta i data!': Can Analogue Games Promote Digital Learning and Participation?”).

‘Delta i data!’ is a game package for data literacy in schools. During the autumn semester of 2024, the game package was sent out to over forty upper secondary schools in Vestland county. Klykken’s contribution to Teachers’ Day will present what the teachers and pupils have reported, so far, about possibilities and challenges when using the learning games.

Please note: The event will be in Norwegian.

More on the Game Package 'Delta i data!'

The ‘Delta i data!’ game package was developed from the results of SLATE’s Erasmus + project Data Literacy for Citizenship (DALI), with help from the Vestland County Council AI group.

The aim of the game package was to create an inclusive space for the development of basic skills related to how digital data is created. Understanding data in digital contexts (data literacy) forms an important basis for being able to understand artificial intelligence (AI literacy).

This research and the 'Delta i data!' project has been supported by the Trond Mohn Research Foundation (TMF) through the EduTrust AI project (TMS2023TMT03).
