At the end of January 2017 Vindenes will travel to Berkeley California (image below) for a week-long workshop that is going to try to identify ways to enhance university education and outreach in the fields of biology, astrophysics, arts and educational science.

The workshop is part of the iSCOPE (integrating Science of Oceans, Physics and Education) project, which involves four partners (University of Bergen, Norway; University of California at Berkeley, USA; Concordia University, Canada; and University College of Stord and Haugesund, Norway). Professor Karin Pittman is leading the Bergen delegation to California.

As he is not a marine biologist or astrophysicist, Vindenes hopes that he will be able to follow along. However, as his speciality is virtual reality, the likelihood is that his expertise will be in high demand as they discuss strategies for engaging students and the general public in science communication!

Vindenes says that he will take some technology with him for demonstration purposes, and will ensure that he has downloaded a number of relevant applications to demonstrate as well. Personally, he hopes to identify areas that need more research and could eventually provide him with the basis for a PhD project in the future.

 It will be an exciting experience and we look forward to hearing more!
