The 2-day LASI-Nordic conference/workshop gathered over 40 Nordic researchers to share research and experience, all the while reflecting on whether there is or should be a Nordic approach to learning analytics (LA).

The experience actually began the day before with a Guest Lecture and meetings with Rebecca Ferguson, one of the leading and most influential LA experts in Europe.

LASI-Nordic 2017’s 2 keynotes provided effective book-ends to the conference activity. Weiqin Chen’s opening keynote addressed the roots of LA – a relatively young research field, but anchored in years of research from other fields, including Intelligent Tutoring Systems, AI in Education, and Educational Data Mining. She highlighted a number of the challenges involved with multiple data sources. Ferguson’s closing keynote aimed to stimulate participants to reflect and plan for the way ahead with LA research.

LASI’s are characterized by being interactive and hands-on. LASI-Nordic 2017 was no exception with a rotation of 3 interactive workshops on Day 1 and a longer provocative workshop on Ethics & Privacy on Day 2 led by Tore Hoel. 

There was also an exciting poster session that was kicked-off with 1 minute fire-hose pitches by the poster creators.

 LASI-Nordic 2018 will be held in Copenhagen, most likely in August!
