SLATE and UiB Offer Courses to CHARM-EU Students for the First Time!

May 8, 2025

The University of Bergen (UiB) has now supported SLATE with 70,000 NOK to further develop and adapt DIGI110, the campus version of the course DIGI610.

DIGI110: Fantastic Data aims to provide basic knowledge of what data and digitalisation do to us and the society we are a part of, and what kind of technology is behind it. The support SLATE has received for DIGI110 means that, for the first time, UiB will be able to offer courses to international students attending universities that are part of the European university alliance CHARM-EU.

DIGI110 will be developed and adapted to reach an international target group. Because it is a fully digital course that is carried out asynchronously on the learning platform MittUiB, DIGI110 is well suited to being offered across national borders and time zones.

The development work will be carried out in spring 2025, led by course coordinators Fredrik Breien (Associate Professor at SLATE) and Professor Barbara Wasson (Director of SLATE). SLATE and UiB will be ready to accept students for the course as early as the autumn semester of 2025.

About CHARM-EU

UiB has been a member of CHARM-EU since 2023. The alliance is one of 64 European university alliances, a flagship initiative in the European Higher Education Strategy.

The CHARM-EU alliance aims to work on solutions that can help meet the challenges of the 21st century, by developing excellent higher education and research in Europe, a common European identity and strengthening the role of universities in society.

The alliance was established in 2019 as part of a new initiative from the EU, and it has project funding from Erasmus+. In addition to UiB, eight universities are part of the alliance: University of Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, Eötvös Loránd University, University of Montpellier, Åbo Akademi University, Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg and Hochschule Ruhr West.
