SLATE is proud to present the NOKI Team that will represent Norway on the international stage, competing alongside some of the world's most talented AI students.  

NOKI (Norwegian Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence) is Norway’s official AI Olympiad for upper secondary school students who are interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI). It serves as the national framework for selecting and preparing Norway’s team for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).

The Norwegian NOKI team will represent Norway at the third edition of IOAI, which will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from August 2nd – 8th, 2026. This year, 103 countries have registered to participate, making it one of the largest international competitions for upper secondary school students in AI.

The Norwegian team, led by SLATE and AI LEARN Researcher Sam Urmian, consists of:

- A key part of NOKI is making AI education more accessible to students. Since AI is not currently offered as a dedicated subject in Norwegian high schools, this project may be one of the first opportunities many students have to learn about AI in a structured way. Participation in NOKI is completely free for all students, and we are working to make our resources as reachable and useful as possible, says Urmian.

Established in 2025, NOKI is the first national Olympiad in Norway focused entirely on AI. NOKI’s goal is to promote AI literacy, responsible innovation, and critical thinking through a national competition that is both challenging and accessible to motivated students across the country.

The AI Olympiad program in Norway is organized by NOKI, with support from the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE), the AI Centre for the Empowerment of Human Learning (AI LEARN) and the Department of Informatics at the University of Bergen.
