Creative freedom for learning

March 16, 2018

Meet Joakim Vindenes – one of SLATE’s PhDs

Joakim says that the most exciting project he is involved with in education is the INFOMEVI173 course.

“In the course, I teach VR programming, 3D object modelling and 360 video production. The bachelor students of New Media who take the course are supposed to create «journalistic prototypes» using VR technology.”

Joakim explains that the course operates under an Innovation Pedagogy regime, which means that the students are given great creative freedom in the project. He believes that because they must make their own critical decisions, it is a good way for them to really learn.

“Journalism in VR is very interesting, and I have posted an entry on my blog, Matrise, regarding it.”  (Note from editor - this is an excellent blog post; informative, reflective - well worth reading)

In addition, the course will be the theme for a talk Joakim will be giving at the Watching in The Media 2018 ViSmedia Conference 20 March.
