The research results from iComPAssare being published and cited. A poster was recently presented at the prestigious state-of-the-field conference, LAK2017 – what is iComPAss about?

Educational and training organisations are challenged to support their learner's competence development, and to maintain an overview of this competence development in order to be able to identify knowledge and skills gaps, and identify the actions and resources needed to address these gaps. Begun in 2015, iComPAss is a research project that aims to find ways to help institutions and organisations to address these challenges.
Why is this important?
Many work areas, such as firefighting, need efficient and effective ways to ensure optimal procedures for the certification and re-certification of their workers. iComPAss investigates how competence modelling, open learner models, learning analytics, and visualisations can support leadership in maintaining an overview of the competency status and development needs of their employees and supports and improves decision-making concerning training needs of individuals, groups, and organisations.
iComPAss considers professional development in two different working situations: a Master programme in Health Leadership, and a Firefighter organisation.
The project, led by Technology for Practice at Uni Research Health, with SLATE as a partner, is funded by the Research Council of Norway until 2018.

Having global impact
iComPAss builds on the group’s previous EU project, NEXT-TELL where they worked on the Inquiry Cycle.
The “Inquiry Cycle” defined in this project has been used by Demetrios G. Sampson, a Professor Learning Technologies at the School of Education, Curtin University, Australia, in his series of 4 lectures discussing analytics for the classroom teacher.
Sampson cites an article written by Cecilie Hansen and Barbara Wasson entitled, “Teacher Inquiry into Student Learning: - The TISL Heart Model and Method for use in Teachers’ Professional Development”, published in the Nordic Journal of Digital Literacy.
